Youth Immersion Camps

Youth Immersion Camps

🌾 Youth Immersion Camps

Outback Instincts runs regular Youth Immersion Camps for young people aged 12–17, delivered on working rural land and grounded in real responsibility, practical skills and connection.
Our immersion camps run for 3–4 nights across 4 or 5 days, providing young people with time away from everyday pressures and the space to reset, refocus and build confidence through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
These are not traditional holiday camps.
They are purpose-driven immersions designed for young people who benefit from structure, routine, teamwork and learning by doing.

🏕️ What to Expect
During a Youth Immersion Camp, young people live onsite and take part in a wide range of practical rural and animal-based activities, which may include:
  • horse handling, horsemanship and riding
  • cattle work and yard skills
  • dog handling and training foundations
  • animal husbandry and daily care routines
  • fencing and basic farm maintenance
  • introductory archery to build focus and self-regulation
  • teamwork challenges and shared camp responsibilities
  • outdoor living, routine and group-based tasks
Young people are actively involved in the day-to-day rhythm of the property, learning to work as part of a team and take responsibility for themselves, the animals and the environment around them.

🎯 Program Focus
Youth Immersion Camps are designed to support young people to develop:
  • confidence and self-belief
  • responsibility and work ethic
  • teamwork and communication skills
  • emotional regulation and focus
  • resilience and problem-solving
  • practical rural and animal-handling skills
For some participants, these camps help open pathways into agriculture, animal care or land-based work.
For others, the impact is personal — learning they can show up, stick with challenges and contribute meaningfully.

👥 Support & Supervision
  • Small group sizes
  • High-support model with typical 1:4 staff-to-young person ratios
  • Experienced facilitators and trained volunteers
  • Clear routines, expectations and safety protocols
  • Night supervision for all overnight camps
All programs operate within child-safe and risk management frameworks.

🧠 Who Are These Camps For?
Youth Immersion Camps are suitable for young people who:
  • are finding life challenging or feeling stuck
  • struggle in traditional classroom environments
  • benefit from hands-on learning and routine
  • connect well with animals and outdoor settings
  • respond positively to responsibility and structure
Camps are not suitable for young people requiring intensive 1:1 supervision or acute clinical support.

🧾 How Camps Are Delivered
Camps may be offered:
  • during school holidays
  • as stand-alone intensives
  • as part of a broader support or pathway program

Some camps are fee-for-service, while others are subsidised or grant-funded.
Revenue generated through fee-for-service camps is reinvested to support Outback Instincts’ charitable purpose, helping provide access for young people who may otherwise be unable to participate.
